David R. Tawil

David R. Tawil, Esq., is a Shareholder in the firm’s Family Law Department.  Prior to joining Budd Larner, Mr. Tawil was a partner at a matrimonial law firm in Morristown, New Jersey, where he had practiced for nine years.  He has appeared before the Family Part in virtually every county in the State of New Jersey.  

In his years at the firm as a member of the Family Law Department and as an experienced trial attorney, Mr. Tawil is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York.  He focuses on all aspects of matrimonial law, including divorce, prenuptial agreements, child custody, parenting time, alimony, child support and domestic violence issues.  Mr. Tawil has extensive background in handling complex divorce proceedings, including business valuations, custody disputes, high income alimony and child support proceedings and equitable distribution of assets, including distribution of multi-faceted assets and deferred compensation.  

Mr. Tawil has lectured on various topics relating to divorce and matrimonial law including equitable distribution, spousal and child support, custody and parenting time and domestic violence.  Mr. Tawil is the co-author of both the 14th and 15th editions of the Domestic Violence Chapter of the New Jersey Family Law Practice Treatise.  He is the host of “The Law Matters,” a weekly talk show on WMTR Radio, and has appeared on numerous other radio programs to discuss matrimonial and family law, domestic violence, custody, adoption, bullying, immigration and other issues.  Mr. Tawil has been selected as a Rising Star by the New Jersey SuperLawyers Magazine annually from 2009 through 2017.  Mr. Tawil volunteers as a panelist for the Morris and Essex County Early Settlement Panel programs, and, additionally, serves as an Executive Board Member for Congregation Etz Ahaim. 

Mr. Tawil is a 2002 graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City.  During law school, he served an internship with the Honorable Nicholas Politan, Judge of the District of New Jersey.  Following graduation, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas P. Zampino, Judge of the Superior Court, Essex County, New Jersey, one of the longest tenured matrimonial judges in the State of New Jersey.
