Phil Chronakis is a shareholder with the firm and handles a wide array of commercial litigation in New Jersey and New York's federal and state courts at the trial and appellate levels. He represents corporate and individual clients in complex commercial litigations, arbitrations, mediations, appeals, contract negotiations, class actions, administrative proceedings, and criminal defense matters. His litigation ideology focuses equally on negotiating and resolving disputes, wherever possible, to avoid or minimize his clients’ exposure to protracted court proceedings, coupled with an aggressive, sustained, and creative representation of his clients when litigation is a necessity.

Mr. Chronakis has extensive experience in all facets of healthcare law, having represented hospitals, surgery centers, practices, and physicians in corporate, employment, shareholder, reimbursement, and managed care disputes; licensure defenses before the BME and OPMC; fraud and abuse defenses in federal, state, and qui tam prosecutions; coding compliance; ERISA reimbursement and preemption disputes; end of life care authority; disputes specific to IVF physicians and patients; and general healthcare practice structure matters. Mr. Chronakis also concentrates his practice in trust and estate litigations and administration on behalf of executors, trustees, and beneficiaries; and legal malpractice disputes, having served as a testifying expert in such matters.  Mr. Chronakis has represented employers and employees alike in gender, age, marital, pregnancy discrimination, and retaliatory discharge litigations and negotiations; and advises employers on resolving workplace disputes, structuring severance agreements, creating and terminating employment contracts, and establishing and enforcing restrictive covenants. Drawing on his experience as a former Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor, Mr. Chronakis defends clients in white collar criminal prosecutions, and has prosecuted and defended civil RICO actions.

Prior to joining Budd Larner in 2013, Mr. Chronakis was a founding member of Chronakis Siachos & Kaplan (2011-2013); a healthcare litigation partner at Garfunkel Wild (2003-2011), and a healthcare litigation associate at Reed Smith (2000-2003), following his service at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. He also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University School of Law from 2001 to 2004, teaching classes on appellate brief writing and oral argument, and prisoners' post-conviction remedies. Mr. Chronakis has been published in the National Law Journal, New Jersey Law Journal, and other legal publications; and has presented CLE lectures on the Kovel Doctrine and the application of the Rules of Professional Conduct in the electronic discovery context. He worked on Cory Booker's 2002 Newark mayoral campaign and was President of the Hudson County Bar Association Young Lawyers' Division in 1999 and 2000.
